I've never been to Limassol, but I've driven through it a few times.
Nothing to avoid in Cyprus, as it's a seriously nice place. The people are fantastic, the food and drink are great. you'll have a brilliant time.
It does get extremely hot in August and the sun is very strong, so slap on the factor 20+, or you'll look like a boiled lobster!

    Oh, and I'm jealous!

We went to Paphos last year and had a day trip to Limassol..........all I can say is beware.....this place is full of astonishingly friendly people, however most of these turn out to be exceptionally determined timeshare sales reps. If someone comes up to you offering a free bottle of wine, scratchcards to win fantastic prizes or restaurant vouchers for 'just 10 mins of your time' run for the hills fella!!!!!!!

It's gone downhill since I was there, but it must be 15 years or so.

Cyprus is my yearly haunt but I always go to Protaras but have been to Limmasol many times.
Its a very busy place and quite large and Industrial in some places. Most of the Holiday hotels and apartments are on the easten side along the coast. There are plenty of shops and bars and places to eat and it is also where the brewery is for the whole of the Southern side and there they make Keo and Carlsberg lager and wines and spirits. There is also quite a large harbour there and I have seen many a military ship in dock from varying countries but mainly Greece, UK and USA.
Its well worth hireing a car and venture out yourself as the roads are quiet and they drive on the same side as us as the trips are a ripoff. If you want really nice sandy beaches you will need to head for Ayia Napa and Protaras which is roughly about 30/45 mins driving and the sea around that area are lagoon colored and nice and warm.
You will love Cyprus but the only down side at the minute is the Euro which can make things a bit pricey.
    Enjoy

If you want to see the Pyramids you can go on an overnight cruise across to Egypt.

Personally I wouldn't bother. Cairo is one of the worst cities I've ever been to and the Pyramids themselves are impressive for a few minutes but you'll not be left alone long enough to take them in.
