    Default clunk from steering

When stationary and turn my steering wheel from side to side im getting a clunk in the middle. I got our lass to wiggle the steering wheel while i had a look and it seems to be coming from the steering colum somewhere. There doesnt seem to be any play in the universal steering knuckle. Any Ideas lads, any suggestions welcome.

Not sure on that one, might be your steering rack going, how old is your car?

definately a clonk? probably the rack.

If its more of a creek i'd say check out top mounts first.

Before you splash out on a whole new rack check the track rod inners, a known fault/weak spot and very prone to wear. When i did mine the dealer i went to had more than 20 in stock, nuff said.

Cars a 2005 with 125000 hard miles, defo a slight clunk like somethings a bit loose. Also how do i check inner track rods and are there any bushes down the rack because a ford sierra i once had did and were prone to wear.

Jack the front wheel up, firmly grasp the wheel in the 9 and 3 o'clock position and try to rock the wheel left and right. There should be no play at all, if there is check the track rod ends, both outer and inner. If your not sure any decent garage should be able to check for you for free.

Mine used to have a slight squeek when turning steering wheel whilst parking etc, what i did was grease the top mounts when i changed the front springs and it seems to have cured it,could be worth doing on yours and it is a known fault on the vecs apparantley.
