Default 1.9CDTI and 'Turbo Lag' – Your Opinions

Having driven a few new-ish diesels recently, they have made me quite aware of the turbo lag on my 120bhp

What are your opinions on it and do you find it ‘bad’ (120 or 150)

The golf I have just handed back would quite happily pull away in second and trundle along with 1300rpm showing and no 'juddering'. By compariosn my CDTi hates doing this and needs muchos clutch slip for a 2nd-gear pull away!

Its odd because looking at the torque graphs on the BSR website, they both have roughly the same amount of torque at around idle/sub 1500rpm. (I appreciate mine is probably a good few 100’kg heavier though)

I find it a bit of a struggle when the engine isn't up to temp. Once it is then there is hardly any lag at all

A correctly running CDTi will happily pull from just under 1500rpm - but most have "issues" and don't correctly pull till 2K.

Running right, I don't have any issues with the so called "turbo lag" of the CDTi's.

Its horrible lag, hence the reason I bought the V6. Although some don't mind or notice it so its down to driving style????
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Are we talking about turbo lag, or boost pressure creation performance (ie performance mapping)?

The 2 are not the same.
Flooring it at 1300 rpm and not a lot happening until the revs get up to 1800 rpm is NOT lag.

Can you expand mate? If this helps..

I liked the low-down grunt from tickover (1000rpm) on the 2.0ltr golf

I dont like the seeminly gut/grunt-less nature of my 1.9CDTI low down.

Whatever it's called, this is what would put me off. Only driven one once and I wouldn't be able to put up with it on a daily basis.

Never noticed this lag people talk about from the 1.9 on mine! whether that's because it was remapped before it had done 500miles or not I don't know..
