    Default What car to buy?

Well possibly the worst decision i have made in my 26 year old life was selling my Vectra less than 3 weeks ago,
Bought a Astra Sri 2.2 as a replacement and on sunday night it developed a few issues.
So now i have either £850 repair bill or just cut losses and trade it in or sell it.

So what car should i go for next, part of me wouldnt mind a Signum as its a bit of a change from a Vectra but i dont know which model for the best (around £4k) Anyone have any suggestions it doesnt have to be sporty i just want some trouble free motoring for a few years

    Cheers guys

Signum's are great but the diesel 1.9 suffers from a flywheel and clutch problem - suggest you do a search for "dual mass flywheel" on this forum. If you do not do many miles then maybe the petrol is best as it is the torque handling of the diesel engine that creates the problem. You will also find Mondeo diesels and others suffer from the same problem. Another solution would be the automatic of course.

If you have spent £850 on the Astra and it is in ok condition maybe you keep it and try and get a warranty extension from the AA. A guy on here posted a good report about his recent esperience with AA warranties.

You have paid the £850 and you may drop a lot of cash on the change - consider very carefully.

    Hope this helps

What is the Astra fault and who quoted you the price?

How much did you pay for it and how much is it worth in current condition?

Any reason for the cam chain slip - I just had big problem with my Omega - VX screwed up with cam belt change and they had to replace my V6 3.2 engine with a new one.

Bought the car for £2200 i reckon i wouldnt lose much on it, its a 52 plate on 68k with full VX history.

I have registed on z22se forum to see if the problem can be pinpointed rather than being led by garages who i am not sure know what they are on about.

I think the slip happened when driving it fairly hard, since then ive kept it under 3krpm as the rattle appears between 3-4krpm

Oh sugar! Gutted mate, as said in another thread, they can just slip a notch or two. Sometimes a new chain kit can solve the problem. Best of luck with it mate. Benny lives near you, might be worth a PM
