I think the B was a particually bad VX for going boobs up. The C SRI cdti 150 has a stonking motor and good MPG which is a bonus. Would be a good choice, I jumped into a C and maybe now having second thoughts only because it is so un sporty in general looks (that rear) and interior. The C is leaps forward in engineering but missing something in the sports area.
Don't mean to sound down as I do love it but as a drivers car it is not, but lets face it it was designed to go up and down motorways.

I am completely biased here as I own a CDTi 150. I've not driven a nicer car. Compared to the B it's like chalk and cheese.

The C's are built very well and are supremely comfortable. I've got 19" alloys on mine and obviously it's got the SRi suspension setup and it's still a better ride then the wife's SRi 140 with 15" alloys.

The 1.9 CDTi 150 engine is in my opinion the best in the range. I think it's a great compromise between economy and performance. Plus if you do want more power it's very easily attainable for little money.

Go get one matey, you won't regret it.

Vec C not sporty looking enough? Neither was the B IMO until people played with it slightly.

With a few mods I personally think the Vec C looks very sporty. Even the lardy estate like I have! Many people do look twice as it is different.

    My estate.

Only problems I had was gearbox. Replaced under warranty

You see, i just dont get it where people say the B is a sportier car????

Looks are a personal thing so while you have nearly 800 people on here loving the C, not everyone is going to agree.

As with all cars there are some faults and it was unfair of some people to critise the C as being unreliable when i t was first launched. They were comparing it to the B, which had had 6 years to iron out problems and the last of them were by far the best.
We are hearing less and less about new problems on the C now, and less of people having the old common faults. Most of the early 52 plate cars will have had all these sorted so even an early one will be a good buy.

As said above, they are not as much of a drivers car in direct comparison to the B models. They are a big car, the same width as an omega so its no country lane rocket machine. They did something with the GSi badge though, and for some reason made it more of a motorway cruiser, where nothing comes close for the money. By Vauxhalls own admission, the pick of the bunch not long after launch was the 2.0T Sri if you wanted spritely A road performance.

Things have moved on since late 2002 and now, as alex says the 1.9 cdti is a corker of a motor and is lapping up media acclaim for its balance of performance and economy.

The C takes some getting used to, if you jump straight out of a B and expects imply a newer version. Its not. Its a whole new car, with very few similarities and hence the whole reason for this club/forum.

Give one a try on a 3 day test drive that vauxhall are doing now. See what you think.

As for the C not being sporty? i think theyve cracked it now....

Seen as we're talking 'Sporty' here -

    Vec B SRi -

    Vec C SRi -

No competition as far as I'm concerned

What we have to remember here is the Vectra was intended to eat the miles on the motorway and most reps moaned and whined about the Vec B's comfort. So Vx created the C with them in mind.

As for not being sporty, my little four pot diesel was stuck to the ar53 of a modded Vec B GSi after a certain VS meeting on the moors a bit back.

dont think there are any real faults that you should look out for with the cdti 150 sri

As said before they are cracking cars which hit the nail on the head with the compromise of power and economy also there are very easy power hikes available for not alot of money

As far as the 'b' being more sportier looking than the 'c'...cant see it myself

    The 1.9 is excellent mate.

You have surprising power plus decent economy.

    Have no complaints from mine.
