Default M32 Quaife ATB Limited Slip Differential

I was surfing when i found this pretty interesting stuff on courtenaysport website.

A direct replacement for the standard Vauxhall differential, the Quaife ATB differential transforms your car's performance, making getting the power down onto the road easier, for improved traction and driveability.

Unlike a conventional plate-style limited slip differential, the ATB diff relies on gears rather than clutch plates for its operation. That means it is much smoother in operation. Because of this, the ATB differential never locks harshly with a set pre-load of wheel slip across the driven axle, like a conventional LSD. Rather, the differential automatically biases the torque away from the spinning wheel across the axle, to a constantly varying degree, and never locks. The Quaife ATB differential has many benefits over a standard open differential, including maximising traction and minimizing wheelspin, eliminating torque steer and snatching in front wheel drive cars compared to conventional LSD units, and a maintenance-free design which retains the standard oil lubrication.

    Available now for Astra VXR (Z20LEH), Astra 1.9 CDTi, Astra H 2.0 Turbo (Z20LEL/Z20LER), Astra H 1.6 Turbo (Z16LET), Corsa VXR (Z16LER), Corsa D SRi 1.6 Turbo (Z16LEL)
as you can see, it suits the 1.9 cdti engine, i believe it can be fitted in vectra too?
would it be an improvement or wasted money?

Spoons had/has one on his VXR, and I seem to remember refering to it 'as the car Vauxhall should have built in the first place'...

Well, as I've attracted a couple more PM's for feedback, I'd better post my findings here as well.

I have the Quaiffe ATB LSD fitted to the Vectra VXR.

It hasnt improved my quarter mile times. So its not really a huge benefit in a straight line. I was hoping for better traction off the line, but the benefit is so so small it isnt worth mentioning.

However, the big benefit, and where its instantly noticeable is going round corners. The ATB LSD 'pulls' you into the apex of the corner. So whereas you normally feel your steering drifting wide as you go round, with the LSD, the steering is being pulled into the corner.

This can catch you out if your not careful as the car digs in under more power. So its great for medium to high speed cornering .. but you will need to relearn how your car drives under hard acceleration.

You dont even notice its there otherwise, the car feels totally standard to drive.

Is it worth it? - yes and no.

Yes = faster cornering, two wheel grip in the wet, no torque steer, Unit cost = c. £500-600
No = High fitting costs (£500-£600)

    Steve
