confused Anyone used air intake cleaner in the 1.9CDTi?

All, given the problems with EGR etc on these intakes, has anyone ever tried squirting carb cleaner or the likes into the air system of their Diesels on a monthly basis to try and combat the build up. This is the first time I have had a turbocharged car and I wouldnt have a clue on where to do this (it was simple in a normally aspirated car). Additionally, would you do this with or without engine running? Any views, help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for that. I do use millers 4 in the fuel but I wonder if the engines would benefit from a cleaning agent right at the air intake.

You can get it at most "decent" motor factors,it certainly worked for me when I stripped the EGR it was clean !,the main problem with the valve is the solonoid its self that sticks which is one of those things that you cannot avoid.

I take your point about millers and in your experience, your EGR valve was ok. I just wondered if anyone on this forum has used any intake cleaner and if so, how was it administered.
I would hazard a guess that it would be best to do it at the point of the air intake at inlet manifold but I am unsure if running the engine (at idle) with the pipe from intercooler to inlet manifold disconnected would cause any spanner lights. Maybe best to be done with engine not running.
    Any views welcome.
    thanks
