I think if you do get caught with the front's done it's just a £30 fine and told to remove them. I just get the backs done though because it's so visible, it's like sticking a sign on your car saying "please pull me over".

My new car will have tinted rears as standard, I was considering getting lighter tint on the fronts
I think the point was that the MOT is going to change so your car will fail. I have no problem with front tints within reason but the testers will.
An SRi has a tint already on it. Even the lightest tint sends them over the limit. Other cars with clear front glass can get away with it but unfortunately not a SRi/GSi
Im aware of a loophole in the law...
Naughty I know...
If your windows are already tinted so it lets in less than 70% light than that is actually LEGAL!
I am sure this law came in a long time ago but is a bit of a gray area. I know someone who failed his MOT going back 2 years ago because of front window tints.
In regards to the west mids, there a place in lye that will do the A pillar back for £100 and will do a very light tint on the fronts for an extra £50 which according to the owner is legal an has had the police come check them to make sure.

Well I can categorically inform you that there are no plans for the forseeable future, of making this a testable item at MOT. It has never been mentioned, there are no bulletins or special notices of any nature on this subject so if anyone tells you that it 'soon will be part of the test...' it is pure speculation on their part.
I will be getting them all done...light smoke silver car = WIN
