I think it's there for emission and/or noise regulation reasons, and you can only gain by it not being there.

Having removed the restrictor on my 120cdti, I have notice the engine is a bit less refined - slight vibration coming into the cabin at tick-over, and when the engine is under heavy load. Nothing major though; I think it's worth it for the power boost it gives. My car does seem to use slightly less fuel since I've done it - as long as I resist the temptation to use the extra power too often!

It made a noticeable difference, even on my already quick remapped 2.0T. Improves/increases airflow to the engine, or in my case the turbo.Might do more for turbo engines than naturally aspirated ones.

I've read a lot of comments on other threads about people saying it doesn't make any difference, so perhaps it's more down to the individual car (mileage, service history etc). All I would say is that the difference isn't earth shattering, but I can definitely notice a cleaner pick-up.

same here, on my 150cdti difference is noticeable, it accelerates smoother and i hear turbo whistling a bit more

do it mate, you have nothing to lose after all, and if you really aren't satisfied you can always put it back

I have done this mod on my 1.9 cdti 120 and have a definite improvement! No flat spot and I dont stall it quite so often in 2nd gear! The engine is far smoother and it doesnt appear to be any more thirsty!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one to stall the cdti It does seem to have an annoying tendancy to cut dead if you let the revs drop below about 800.
