Question Minor interior upgrades that I would like...

I have just looked at LMFVauxhall and found the sunglasses holder unit, which I believe after reading the other threads on here, it should just clip into place on my Jul'05 Direct SRi when I un-clip the piece of plastic that I currently have?

I have also seen on the LMFVauxhall site, the map reading light, which has four buttons with pictures on it, the image is not the best and I cannot work out what the four buttons are for? Obviously one is the main light which I currently have... What are the other three for?

Also I would love to order a rear light unit as it ****** dark in the back when the sun goes down!!! But I am really scared about cutting away the interior of the car; has somone got measurements of the where the unit should go should go or is it a case of when I drop the headlining I will see where...

    hey thobbs,

i've recently done all the mods that you've described above. The four buttons on the lighting unit are as follows:

the two on outside are for the map reading lights that the unit incorporates, there is one that switches the light on and off and one that controls whether you want the light to come on when the doors open (i think!?)

the sunglass swap is quick and easy, the lighting (map reading unit) is a bit more tricky, you have to take the plastic lense cover off in order to get to the 3 (maybe 4) torx screws.

i did the rear light upgrade last night and i must say there were some testing times when i thought i was going to rip or break something. Once you get the lining down you can see that there is a little recess in the lining showing you where it should be, but be careful not to cut the hole as large as that, start small and work your way larger if you need to. it's fairly straightforward, getting the wire unstuck from beneath the tape is a pain though!

Make sure you check to see if the wire is there first!

On 2004 onwards not all cars have it, as I found with mine. The cost and hassle starts to increase if you still want to do it without the pre-requisite wiring in place...

Rear lighting does make a difference mate, might wanna put colour bulbs in once you've done it.

Excellent news! Well, I have the torx screwdriver kit, thanks to a Sky+ hard drive upgrade experience, so after pulling down the headlining and looking for the ribbon cable - I will order teh stuff from LMFVauxhall and do the mods!!!
Then I just need to book the car into the Vauxhall dealer where I purchased the car to have the reversing sensors fitted.

I used a cardboard template to get the correct size and then held that up against the roof lining and marked it that way.

hope these pics help you with the markings on the buttons, it's all pretty straightforward once you have a little tinker:

Previosuly when I just had the one button version
the middle light button switched it on and off. Now with this conversion the map lights work, but now the original switch does nothing and the circular power switch controls the main light!? Bit bizarre

    David,

I think you'll find that the "original" button (3rd from the left) operates the lights when the doors are open.

if you have the doors open and press that button it'll switch them off i think. so it should do something
