    Default Help, with a virus

a friend has managed to get a virus on there computer, and it wont allow them to connect to internet and start many programmes... Not sure what sort of virus it is..
I've managed to load ccleaner without any probs and have loaded that and started the programme..
however I have tried to install Malwarebytes from a disc.. It has installed the programme... but it wont let me run it.. at all...
any ideas what to do?.. I've tried in safe mode etc but to no avail...
    any info greatly appreciated!!

    (oh and it windows xp)

ok then how about using sytem restore to go back to when you last rememeber the system was stable?

other options in the start box type msconfig and look through the start up programmes to see if you can find anything out of the ordinary and prevent it from starting

Default My way , or the higway

I believe that you have found the hard way the need for taking backups
of your work in general. Next thing is that you consider seriously to think of
formating your hard disk and of course reload your basic system , Windows or
    whatever you like .
If you are an average Windows user think very seriously the need to
secure your computer in the future . A very good start for this is the
    '' www. Firewallleakguide.com '' .
If you need any help just ask .

best bet is to completely reformat the hard drive its a bit of a pain having to reinstal all your original software but sometimes it's just as quick or even quicker than trying to get rid of the virus

and it's more secure as the virus could include a downloader or backdoor and you don't know what else has been installed on your PC by it. It could be trying to nick your internet banking logon etc for all you know. better safe than sorry.

if u can get into safe mode and your using windows xp, i often recommend trying combofix. from bleepingcomputer.com.

As a last resort before reinstalling this has not failed me yet. Would never try it with vista tho
