If it's out of warranty I would either take it to an independant if your willing to pay, or do it yourself!!

I'll just be keeping my own records of mileage/dates etc and whats been done. I'm also keeping the receipts for all parts that will coinside with the service date. I'm planning on keeping my car for next 5 yrs so by then it will 8/9 yrs old, it will be worth next to nothing by then so i dont see the service stamp from vx as been a great assett to me.

i would service it myself, or take it to a small garage
    all they will change is

    oil filter
    air filter
    fuel filter
    pollen filter
    oil
    and check the car over,
    brakes
    tyres and tyre pressures
top all the fluids under the bonnet

    HOPE THIS HELPS

Would you replace the fluids or just top them up? Coolant, brake, steering fluids etc? The last service I had at a independent garage they changed the oil and used Semi Synthetic 10w40... Poor girl!!! So I emptied it and filled her up myself with Super Synthetic 5w30...

Just keep the receipts for the parts and stick them in the service book, it's as good (if not better to me) as a delaer stamp.

I'd rather see a DIY service schedule done than some Polish nubbin or 16 year old school dropout beating the car with a hammer as they seem to do in main dealers.
