    Default To De-cat or not

    Hi There,

I have just purchased a 2006 Vectra 1.9CDTi 150BHP with 125k on the clock and it isn’t quite as quick as I thought it would be.

I am thinking that with mileage the cat may have become clogged up with soot. Has anyone out they removed the cat or modified the cat’s internals to improve the exhaust flow?

How will any cat modifications impact on the performance of an otherwise standard car?

My only other planed modification in the short term will be a K&N panel filter.

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul

I had a Magnex pipe that replaced the pre-cat on my 1.9-150 Astra. Did a good job, seriously reduced low end lag, made the turbo considerably more audible, but did increase reek on high revs.

Personally, like many, I'm against de-cating... sports cat is the way forward if you want to do something to improve the bhp, but a new standard part will probably make a fairly big difference too. The current one is bound to be a bit gunked up.

Hi All sorry I have been away from the PC for the weekend.

ZS how similar is the Astra engine to the Vectra? Did you have any problems, increased fuel consumption or any warning lights etc.?

DNS and sristeven1 why wouldn’t you de-cat? I have fitted de-cat pipes to all my previous diesel cars without problem, never had one this recent though hence my concerns and questions asked.

What have people out there done and have they had problems or positive results?

Has anybody got info where to buy de-cat pipes for reasonable money or have they just removed the innards from the current cat?

    Regards,

    Paul
