    Default Battery Light Staying on

Hi everyone, i think i may know the answer to this problem but it could be something else.

The battery light on my 1.9 cdti came on and stayed on whilst going to work this morning, i turned the car off and restarted it the light went out.

But on the way home this evening the light came on again. So is the alternator knackered or is there some other prob????

i rang my local parts place up and was quoted £160 +vat but then it gets tricky what amp one do you want matey? No idea was my reply and was told to have a look.

Well i had a look i can not see nothing on it, but it looks like a complete nightmare to take off, i can not find a How 2, so is it a job that a lunatic like myself is able to do and which alternator do i order and the motor factor reckons its a next day item.

Any help, words of wisdom gratefully received.

    Thanking you all in advance..

Doesnt appear to be too hard according to TIS, lemme see what Mr Haynes says as well, 3 spanners..

Looks okish reading what its saying from both info sources. Drop the V belt undo a wiring harness and then alternator bolts then remove. Lemme know if your gonna tackle this. I'm busy saturday but can help sunday if your gonna do it then and your not working.

btw, think the 1.9's are 100amp alternators

edit, they do 3 types for the 1.9. Give me your reg via pm and I'll look it up for you.

The problem has been solved with a new alternator, before you say wheres the pics i forgot to take any, all i will say its a nightmare of a job, undoing the alternator was the easy part getting it out of the engine bay was a little bit harder, but its sorted now.

Thanks for all the help (Glynn and Plasma)
