    Default Bonnet catch

Gave my car it's monthly wash and mini valet today, a bit of a drag without the use of a hosepipe!

Went to open the bonnet afterwards - pulled the latch, which was slack, and heard a click. Basically it didn't partially open as it should. My guess is that the cable has snapped or come adrift somewhere. Looks like I'm on to the dealers again tomorrow.

Anyone else had this problem and if so is it an easy fix? Don't know how they're going to get it open in the first instance as you can't put your hand up underneath...

Yep had the same prob. Easily sorted. If the cars under warranty get the garage to deal with it. On mine, if I gave the cable a good tug ( ooer missus! ) and had someone at the front pulling the bonnet up, it would give up and open. With that done, I unscrewed a little bolt that is just to the right of the bonnet catch (it also grips the cable) and pulled the cable tight so that the knobby bit was right against the catch. Look at it from above, you'll see what I mean. Tightened the bolt up and hey presto - better, just not perfect! This took me about 10 minutes, including pondering, chin scratching, wondering and finding my tools! Hope this helps you.

had a few 'occasions where the bonnet hasnt shut properly...driving down the a33 at aver 70 and the bonnet has nearly flung open on me...seems to have been sorted, went in for 2nsd service and the catch has been greased and seems to have sorted it...
does feel very flimsy when you pull at it though from inside the cabin...feels like it is gonna snap everytime I go to open it!..
by way marc, where in berks are u from?

Thanks. Think I'll give your tip a try Andrew before I call the dealer (still under warranty until Sept). I've seen a little too much of the dealer recently and don't really want to give up a day again...

Have you tried Approach at Andover? They were always pretty good for my Dad when he had Vauxhalls. They even replaced an engine after they forgot to put oil in it after a service!!

I've used Inchcape (used to be Gurneys) in Newbury for all servicing and warranty work so far - they're OK. Car just seems to be going there once a month at the moment.
