Default Need info on tyres and wheel widths

Just under 9 montha ago i bought my alloys from wheelmania ( vogue international) here in wigston , leicester .... and for the remaining time have been running all over the country for 1 reason or another ... that was until good friday when i had a flat tyre ..

As payney and I took my wheel off to change it for the space saver wheel , we found it quite funny that we couldn't see where the hole was , and that 1/3 of the inside edge of the tyre had cracked , leading us to believe that this was the reason the tyre went flat !!!

Today i went to Formula one tyres , just around the corner ... and he took the tyre off ...... as soon as he did he realised that the tyre was the incorrect size for the rim ..... instead of the 8x19 it was 8.5x19 which would warrant a 245 tyre not the 235 tyre i had on

I contacted CYB on the width of his rims and was told that his are on 8'' rims with 235 tyres and also I believe Ian_c has 8.5 '' but with 245 tyres on his 20's ..... to add more ammo in my corner on my reciept it states they sold me 8''x19 's and NOT the 8.5x19 i have on at the moment !!!

So my question to you is the 8.5x19j too big for the 235/35 - 19 And is there any links you can give me to look into , and get some solid info for when i go in there and ask for a new set of tyres !!!!

The standard Vx/Opel rim for 235/35-19 is indeed 8", but as long as
there is space for a 8,5" it wont be any problem with a 235 tire.

Check out the sale of goods act - youve got 6 years from what it says

    DTI Sale of Goods Act

however this site states that a 235 tyre will fit a 8" to a 9.5" wheel.

Also this more informative site agrees with it, sorry mate.

Tyres should not be cracking up, bud. My Michelins on the front are getting on for 25000 miles old, the sidewalls are as they were when I bought them this time last year.

They dont rub anywhere do they?

Andrew is right, when I lived in Poland, I saw so many times 195 on 9", 175 on 7", 245 on 11" or even 245 on 7" and everything was alright, as long as ET was correct.

a few pics to show you what im on about

1st pic ..... you can clearly see the rim sticking out further than the rim protector

The second pic is showing a gap between the rim and a fully inflated tyre !!

This pic is showing the cracking of the flat tyre in my boot !!

surely if the tyre was big enough then the rim protector should be protecting the rim ??????

Exactly. A rim protector tyre does just that - It protects the rim it's mounted to. It's unbelievable that this was allowed to leave the workshop like that. Also that isn't cracking, that's more like 'delamination' where the tread and carcass part company.

Either way, I'd be going to see wheelmania tomorrow and impressing on them how poor that is.

Ive got to be honest big guy that tyre should not have failed like that no matter how cheap they are i would take that back to wheelmania and ask them very politely what they intend to do about it youv'e only got to look at the tread left to know thev'e not been abused

On the subject of rim size the rims on Lou's car are 8" wide and they run 225/45/18

If your after a good tyre to put on i can not recommend strongly enough TOYO PROXES T1R's an excellent tyre in my oppinion hope this helps

give us a shout if you want any backup DUDE !!!!!!!

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

That's why everyone shouldn't buy wheel & tyre packages, now i know because I have the same problem 225/35/18 on 8.5" wheel
