    Default cambelt/timing chain change

    Hi
    i have 2004 1800 ecotec Vectra.
After how many miles do I change the cambelt/ timing chain (sorry, not technical) ?

Honestjohn of Sunday Telegraph recommends more frequently than Vauxhall

Vectra 1800 has a timing belt on the Z18xe engine. Vauxhall recommend 80000 miles, although I seem to remember a notice at the dealers recommending a more frequent change. The general consensus is to change at 60000 miles. Fit a cambelt kit which includes belt, idlers and tensioner, about £55 from Autovaux (genuine parts).

Also whilst at it the water pump is worth changing too. For how much it costs (£200 maximum) i would get it done every 40k personally

Cambelt, Idlers, Tensioners, Water pumps changed every 40k miles?????? **** me u guys must be made of money My Service Manual states changing the toothed belt and tension roller for my engine (Z18XER) every ten years or 100,000 Miles, obviously im not gona wait that long (60-70k seems fair) but still at this rate you'd have me spending a fortune every year and a half????

Depends on if you want to risk it snapping and then the hassle of fighting to have it changed. I am fairly sure vx have altered the service schedule but am prepared to be proved wrong on that. I'd give them a ring. hth

If I had a veccy from new then cam belt would be done at about 60k... just when it's out of warranty.
