Default A bit of a random one!!!

    Hello All

Now I realise the following is not related to this forum but thought it worth asking as I know how much knowledge there is out there!!!

So I have just replaced my knackered work car (Fiat Punto ) with a Golf GT TDI 130 (52 plate) so far I am very pleased with it, its my first diesel and am loving the torque! Unfortunately it has a couple of minor issues which I was aware of before I bought it but am hoping to sort, so heres where you guys come in!! When I try to start the car first thing in the morning it doesnt do anything when I turn the key, doesnt turn over, no noise at all! Then after a few seconds of trying it just turns over and runs perfect! Its definately temperature related as this morning was worse than ever and was -2! Yesterday started perfect for first time but was lunchtime when warm outside!! Just wondered if this is a diesel thing or if any one has any thoughts?!

The other thing is the remote lockings not working and cant re-progamme it, the fob is sending out the signal but car not recognising! Again any ideas?

Apologies for the incorect make and model but thoughtwas worth a try

    Thanks in advance!

The Volkswagen 130PD TDi engine is an old unit technology wise, and the delay your experiencing is the glow plugs warming up. The colder it is outside the longer it will take.

Modern common rail diesel engines are more efficient and don't need the usual 'plug warm up'.

Regarding the key fob, best to get it to a speacialist and get the key properly re-coded.

As said it's the glow plugs and pretty normal, my missus had a 53 plate and it was exactly the same. In relation to the key, NOT A CLUE!

Your battery might be on the way out, as it should still turn over even when the glow plugs are on.

If the glow plus were gone engine would still turn over, problem is most likely to be starter motor if it is not even turning over with the possiblity that it is a battery.

If you definately have over 3 volts in battery in key remote you will need a new remote section of key.

Ok thanks a lot, I guess be worth trying a new battery first and see from there! As for the key fob I tried a new battery but still no good so as suggested may have to try a new fob, whats odd though is that I have 2 remotes with the car and neither work, seems unlucky for them to both have failed!
