    Default is this right?

a mate of mine just rang me up and said a guy down the gym was telling him that he got stopped by the police the other day and had his licence took off him because he had the old type paper licence, police said it wasnt valid and he has to go to court and maybe fined 1800 quid and get disqualified????

i know this guy aswell from going training and he is in his mid to late 30's i think so he hasn't been driving that long.

does this sound right or what?

any police on here got any info about paper licences or info on it being the law to change to photocard licences.

    Found This

It doesn't say they have to be changed, just when you send it back for any reason they will only return a photo card one.

Paper one is still valid as fas as I know, he's not telling you everything I suspect. If he's been done for a £60 & 3 points they can and will take it off you there and then.

This is interesting. When we loan a car to a customer, we have to
see the paper copy as the plastic id card type licence is not
currently regarded as a legal document. From the plastic card
you can not tell if the driver has any endorsments.

when you get a plastic one you also recieve a counterpart driving licence which you must keep as well and produce together if requested

Mine is valid to 2026 and I wasn't nicked when I produced it at a speed awareness course.
