Default Bought new car, has to go! Insurance too high

Just bought a 2001 uk model Impreza 2.0 Sport est, excellent condition in and out, slightly high miles 128k. Spoke to the insurance company today, i have 3 months left on the old cars policy so i wanted to swop it over, an extra 512 for 3 MONTHS!!!! I now can only insure it for me at a cost of 396 for a whole year with no no claims and points. Proble was my misus is only 23 and has only been driving for 3 years. Next was they stopped making the car for uk in 2000 so its only listed for 2001 x as an import though is a uk car reg on 1/1/2001. they are going to give me a call back later when they have confirmed its a uk car will drop the insurance then to 750 for the year for the both of us, Still the car may have to go. will take some pics later to show and maybe put an add on here

    Is it just a sport...??

No disrespect, but mate had a Sport and it was awful, the only saving grace for Impreza's is the turbo boxer motor - maybe a blessing in disguise for you

Didn't you check the insurance before you bought it?

Shouldn't be that high anyway, bet it will come down when they put it through as a UK one.

Probably drop after they ID it as a UK car, its amazing how much extra they charge for imports.
