Default Vectra Estate New exhaust - £690

After seeing something hanging down under the car crawled underneath to discover that 5 - yes five - of the exhaust brackets welded to the exhaust system were broken after some rusting. The exhaust system itself seems surprisingly ok.

Vehicle is a 2004 2.2 direct estate with 49,000 miles on the clock
Cost to replace the system - £690 - ouch

Given the age, mileage of the vehicle and that reliability is important to me is it worth while even considering having new brackets made up and welded on or should I just bite the bullet and put on a new system? (I tend to the later)

Would like to consider a stainless steel system however time is of the essence as the MOT is imminent.

I stay in the Glasgow area and any recommendations for an exhaust supplier/fitter in the area would be very welcome.

    Thanks,
    Dave

A custom made S/S one will be cheaper than that IMO

I would go for the stainless one mate, I am sure you will get one cheaper then the £690 you have been quoted.

I am sure someone on here got a duplex stainless for the estate for between £300 and £400.

Plus you get a lifetime warranty. Try Here http://www.stainlessexhausts.com/

Have obtained a couple of other quotes one at £950 and another at £944. (Wonder if the original quote of £690 failed to account of there being two back boxes.)
These prices seem to me to be incredibly high or is it that I am simply completely out of touch?

Aye davree, these prices are for fitting the standard vauxhall exhaust to a 2004 2.2 petrol auto estate.

As said before go stainless, the standard ones are a rip off!!

At least with a stainless one it should/Will last the life of the car and be at least half the price as a standard one!!
