Well, yet another top day at Brands Hatch. The main feature was the British Truck Racing Superprix, 4 races in total from the monsters, with support races in the forms of Legends, Pick-Up Trucks and the British Saloon Car Championship.
Myself and Jon (Jay Kay) made our way to Brands at about 0730 where we were later joined by Bobssignum. Weather was a bit cold but that never spoils the races, apart from idiots who bring camper vans into the circuit and park it right in the middle of South Bank, blocking everyones view! In fairness, the driver didn't even have time to apply the handbrake when a chap not far from us went straight over, banged on his window, had a chat, and no time he reversed his plastic coffin out the way!
Oh, and spotted an absolute stunner of a Ferrari 308 GTB under the trees. No sign of Magnum though!
So here are the pics. There's quite a few so apologies for that but it shows what you missed out on!
Firstly, some of the Show Trucks!
Now the Big Boys!
And my favourite pic!
Now the Pick-Up Trucks!
Now the Saloon Car Championship. Some classic 'Old Skool' motors here and they sounded lovely, especially number 67, the red Mk I Escort. Dont know what was under the bonnet but the turbo chirp was pure music and it went like stink!
This Astra belongs to a mate of Jon's!
As mentioned, Magnum was here somewhere but only found his car. This had to be seen in the flesh to appreciate it's outstanding condition. Only 40k on the clock and it was immaculate. In my opinion, this is when Ferrari's looked the best.
And finally, having found an Autosmart stand not far from the main entrance selling an abundance of cleaning and detailing gear, from air freshners to sealants, i bought a tin of Blast Cool air freshner and haggled for some microfibres, as you do. I noticed that they did their own Carnuba wax so walked all the way back to South Bank where we were parked and pondered on wether or not to try some. Got my phone out, did a Google search and found some really good reviews on the stuff, retailing in the shops for £10. So i went back to the Autosmart stall, (I'm knackered now as this is my second lap of the circuit)!, and had a chat with the same lady on the stand. Fair play, she's been in the detailing game for years and new all about claying, DA and orbital polishers etc, so we had a chat about this Carnuba wax. In all fairness, she wasn't trying to blow smoke up her own backside and after a chat, and more bartering, i bought a tub of it for a fiver.................but only if she threw in some more microfibres, which she did!! Result! 5 microfibres which they were selling for £1 each, a tub of Carnuba wax and the Blast Cool air freshner..............£7.50!
Well that's it. Apologies for the long post but it's the only way to cram in what was another brilliant day into a small space.
Thanks for reading guys and hope to see some of you on the 5th April for the first rounds of the BTCC.
