Default CR2 going into limp home mode

Can Mike or anyone have a stab at why when the CR2 unit it turned up its fine in 1st and 2nd gear, upto 4k or slightly above but when into 3rd and pulling very nicely, say 3k it then goes to limp home mode?

Thought the map was the same throughout the revrange and thus picking a gear would not affect it. Thought it may be air intake due to it working nicely on a cold day. But the next cold day it didnt like it..

it might be that the box doesnt know what gear you are in. When in 1st and 2nd the fuelling is set one way by the ECU and then changes when in longer gears, but the box doesnt, thereby overfuelling causing limp home mode (doesnt take much to trip the lambda sensor)

AByss - Its the silver box with the pot and the red led.

Ian - That could be a good guess. Wonder if theres a way of getting around the lambda sensor? The box is dopey regarding fuelling, ie 1 in equal 2 out or somesuch depending on the mapping. But how would the ECU know what gear your in? There no attachments to CANbus for the gearbox though?

The load on the engine in 1st and 2nd is lower than 3rd,4th,5th & 6th because the gearbox is reducing rpm to the wheel to increase torque. As a result less fuel is actually consumed in 2nd at 3000rpm than in 3rd at 3000rpm. I'm afraid the fact is your box isn't smart enough as I found myself.

Have you tried not putting your foot down as far on the accelerater? You might be able to keep it in a higher setting by using less right foot, as you can to the max permissible fuel pressure without going all the way. So you would have to feather the pedal.

Yeah i tried that, but when u want a decent accelaration in 3rd, ie not flooring it but picking up nicely it will still do it. So i guess its turn the pot back time until the remap

I though that was the point of spending the extra £100 on the CR2 but was apparently wrong.

The Remap will make it all better mate, just be patient

Then you'll be able to get through fuel and tyres just as fast as me
