03 vectra auto gearbox problems

Can anyone offer any help or advice please?

Ive just purchased a 03 vectra 2.2 with a dead gearbox, im considering switching it to a manual transmission but was wondering what extra work it would involve.
Would there need to be any software reprogramming or extensive rewiring carried out?

Has anyone done this before?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

The swap over would cost a fortune a lot more than what the cars value is, have you tried getting a re-con box or even getting your own reconditioned?

hi, ive found a local breakers yard with all mechanical parts to switch it to a manual for £300, the cheapest i can get the original box reconditioned locally is £1400 +vat, and ive found a couple of breakers with auto gearbox's for around £1000+..
obviously the much cheaper route would be to switch but can it be done?
i bought the car locally for £700..

If you go the conversion way , your dash will light up like a christmas tree with all the autobox ecu sensors not registering.
My advice would be consider breaking the car , then buy a manual .
This forum is full of horror stories regarding the autobox , I had one as well - not any more though

Hi, I Hav a 2.2auto too, its done 97k but theres no fault with gearbox yet, touch wood. Can any1 tel me hw i can keep it from knackering up on me as the whole car is sweet, Thanks

Get the gearbox oil changed, and ignore any garage that says "it's not mentioned in the service book, so doesn't need doing".

Hi if you fit the manual box get someone with an uptodat snapon kit or op-com software and reset the ecu that will clear all info and then reset it as manual .

My auto box has done 84k, still fine and I had the auto fliud changed last year. Well worth getting fresh fluid, not that expensive.
