Default For my next project - In Car Punters

Too quiet at the moment, almost wishing I'd gone for my LGV licence now instead of a new car.

It's no busier on the LGV's! I have been doing agency work in between my regular job for the past five years and it's never been as quiet. Struggle to get a couple of nights now. Been blamed on companies tightening budgets and the influx of Polish/Romanian cheap labour. They are coming straight from the Army in Poland with HGV1 and getting jobs here. Companies love them as they will work for a couple of quid an hour and love it!

    Paul.

That I'm afraid is the case Leeds, eventually it will be the end of GB altogether, and the government seems happy to let it happen as well, I like the Polish ppl but if all our companies continue to set up abroad and employ cheap labour here everyone will end up skint, and nothing to earn means nothing to spend resulting in a recession, it would be better if we all had to pay more on the understanding that the likes of BT employ here 100%, using them as an example btw, they aren't the only company that you get to speak to Raj when you have to contact them.

I'm fortunate enough that I don't have to rely on Agency work. I just do it for a bit extra and the money is good when i can get it. I'd hate to think i was relying on it for an income i'd have been sunk months ago!!

I have to admit, the one thing that really put me off was the 55 mph speed limit, I just dont think I could fully concentrate at that speed, when I drive on open road at that speed my mind wanders, but at 70 I'm fine, cant really see why they did the speed limit thing, the weight of a lorry colliding at 55 will have the same result as at 70 imo, you'd think the tacho to limit driving hours would have been enough.

Yeh, drives me mad also. When i started driving hgv 11 years ago now the 60 limit was just coming in. 60 was a good speed, but 85kms there sat at now and it's to slow for driver fatigue. The main factor in it is the fuel consumption and f*** the driver!

I remember sometime back in the eighties, I was doing a run to Heathrow, I was at about 75ish and a Volvo unit and twin trailer went past me like I wasn't moving, I glanced up and there was a guy no older than 21 bouncing along in the cab, probably Polish and probably driving one of ours now at a reduced rate in all meanings of the word :-)

I remember driving Leyland roadtrains when i first passed my HGV1 test, they would easily do that. Shake all your fillings out in the process though!
