Default Lift or drop engine out?

I'm going to be changing the engine over on my 1.8vvt. Does anyone know if there is enough room to lift the engine out the bonnet or do you have to drop the subframe? I'm thinking that if you can lift it out, I will do it myself, but if you have to drop the subframe I will pay to have them swapped.

    Any input will be appreciatted.

    Thanks

The best and quickest is out the bottom with subframe.

Ya can lift it out but remove the gas struts and the bonnet lifts vertical which makes it easier. ;-) Or remove bonnet. Its not a big lump and the engine bay is massive. Try removing a 2.0 16v engine from an old Clio!!!! Its easier to take the car to bits around the engine!!! The post above is easier but if doing it at home out the top is DIY friendlier

Out of the top. Took my 3.2 V6 out the top and didn't even have to remove the bonnet. It was easier to refit with the bonnet removed so you might as well remove bonnet before you take the engine out.

Took a 2.0 dti out 8 weeks ago. Wheels off drive shafts out. Take as many of the parts off you can for ease I.E Starter manifold, and lift out.

    Easy ISH!
