Unhappy headlights stay on when switched off

Hi guy's, yesterday i started the vectra at lunch time and the bulb out symbol light up for about 30 secs and went out again so i thought nothing of it. When i drove home it was daylight, so i didn't have the headlights on at all. When i went out to go to work this morning i noticed the dipped headlights and side lights were on. So i presumed i had bumped the switch getting out the car last night, but when i got in the switch was off anyway, and because of that the battery had gone flat. Luckily i was able to borrow the girlfriends car to get to work. Any idea's whats gone wrong

    Cheers
    Steve

    2 ideas spring to mind

1st. Bulb had blown and is shorting out, check and replace bad bulb as required

2nd. Dim/Dip relay fault, was very common on Volvos in the late 80s

Reconnected battery and all bulbs seem to work fine. I will fully charge the battery and see what happens over the next couple of days.

    Thanks for your advice Guyver1.

    Cheers Steve

Hi guy's, i charged the battery and have been using the car as normal. I thought all was well as the lights have not come on themselves since, until today. Drove to work, parked up. went to go home at 6 and the lights were on again. Luckily no flat battery THIS time. Any more ideas as to whats going on.Cheers Steve

I take it you don't have auto lights?
    Have you changed bulbs recently?
    Have you changed the switch?
Have you unplugged the connection on the switch and on each bulb to look for bad wiring possible short and then re-connected?

It's very strange for them to stay on dipped with ignition off. I found moving the indicator up and down while parked up whilst refitting the dash turned DRL on somehow, my post is around somewhere but can't find it. I had a new CIM fitted under warranty when my interior lights and radio were playing up. I hope the CIM doesn't do the ignition logic too.

Hi Steve, no i don't have auto lights, or should i say, i seem to at the moment .

Sorry but what does DRL and CIM stand for?

I haven't changed any bulbs or the switch. I think i'll try having a look at some connections. Someone suggested checking the connections in the rear lights because of the canbus set up if it gets damp it can wreak all sorts of havoc.

I'll keep you posted on my findings.

    Cheers

    Steve
