    Default HGV or PCV Licence......

Because the Mrs is 7 months pregnant and will have to stop work soon, I am looking for ways to supplement our income.
Was thinking about either national haulage or Coach / Bus work.

What am I looking at in terms of cost implications for either of the licences, as I have only a standard car licence, having passed my test 10 years ago. HGV is C+E (is that right?) and PCV is D is it not?

Are there any companies that anyone knows of that will put you through the licence / test system??

    Cheers in advance

Bus companies will put you through it for nothing but most state you have to stay for a year.Hgv is quite expensive and unless your gonna do it as a full time career then in my opinion not worth it.

there is 2 classes of hgv, C and C+E first being a class 2 hgv license for rigid vehicles and C+E is for tractor unit and trailer. i think i am right in thinking you would need to go class 2 first then class 1 or C then C+E all in would work out quite expensive, so as mikep said not worth it unless its a long term thing, and bus companies will put you through pcv trainin or at least some do.

i am lucky i work for a company who put me through my class 2 and may someday in future invest in class 1 for me too.

you've only got a normal car licence and can't drive a 7.5t truck.. then it'll cost ya near enough a grand to get the licence to drive one!

So.. best bet, if it;s just short term ya after, is bus!

OR.. ya can do some courier work for companies.. they will give you a van/route etc!
ya not thought down that route?

You can earn more money driving a transit van . All the poles have the HGV 1 jobs in sainsburys etc. I have had a class 1 for years continental driving up until 1990. Hgv 1 is easier to drive than class 2 -3.

i am a coach driver and love it and there is money in it! psv is definatly cheaper than hgv as you have to first pass class 3, then 2, then 1.

yea id have to agree with above its very expensive to do your hgv C and c+e especially as learning to drive a truck is one thing and passing your test is another. i did my class 2 hgv (just c) in january and it took me 3 days of training and 4th day i passed however i've had alot of previous expeiernce driving large vehicles

Will have a chat with someone in my PSD to see if they mind me doing part time courier work, its something I have done previously with a degree of success.
Will see what they have to say and then will have a nose about to see what work is going.

    Cheers for the help guys!
