    Default For my next project - In Car PC

    Well was bored yesterday so was thinking of another plan for the Vec. And came up on some forums for an in car PC. Potential obviously is HUGE!!!

    I have bought Paul (Leeds Vectras) touchscreen DVD unit and going to use that for the VDU and touchscreen input.

    Then we have 75 x Compaq SFF PCs at work sitting around doing nothing. So going to use one of them with a 40gb harddisk, 256Mb memory and route a DVD drive into the armrest of the vec.

    Then use a GPS reciever:

    http://linitx.com/product_info.php?c...roducts_id=823

    This will run TomTom 5 navigator.

    Using this for the power supply:

    http://linitx.com/product_info.php?products_id=598

    This controls power and shutdown so no dead battery!

    Then a mini USB keyboard:

    http://linitx.com/product_info.php?products_id=779

    Followed by my own front end via. Flash.

    Ordered the above parts pics will follow as I go along!

    How does that power supply work? Does it replace the PSU from the PC completely?

    Yes mate. Remove the standard 240v power supply then run 3 wires. One direct from the battery, one from the ignition and a dedicated earth cable. It constantly monitors the voltage at all times Very nifty bit of kit. Was going to design my own but for that price I can't be arsed!!!

    That is nifty, thought you might have to play around with power inverters. How are you going to house it? Found a custom case or just gonna shove the box in the boot?

    Nope that little power supply does everything including remote shutdown of the box etc as needed. Remove the old power supply from the Compaq system and mount this one inside. Just get a couple of double sided sticky motherboard suspender things. Can't remember the name of them! So all in one case. The Compaq box will fit perfectly in the spot where the CD changer would go Joys of having an estate

    Here is a pic of the Compaq;

    I'd add a large HD 250Gb+, a wireless card and just think of all the MP3s and DVD rips you could fit on there! Awesome mate, love to see this in action when complete.
