    Cool West Coast Driving Holiday...

Ok, so after our New York holiday last year, my girlfriend has talked me into using my terminal leave from the RAF to take a holiday while I can afford the time and money to go on one before starting some sort of new job (I hope..) and we're looking at the West Coast this time...

Basic idea at the moment is to fly to Las Vegas, drive to San fransisco, then down to Los Angeles and San Diego spending a few days in each place to do some sight seeing and touristey stuff...

Personally I'm looking forward to having a V8 cruiser to cross some spectacular scenery, but what would everyone else recommend?

    Places to go?
    Hotels?
    Rental Companies?
    etc etc...

Any help much appreciated ladies and gentlemen....

Wow, totally cool idea and will be a great driving holiday

Ohh New York love the place, going back for Christmas

I will ask a couple of my friends, as they live and work out that way...

Alamo and National Car Rental, which are very popular in the USA... My ex uses National Car Rental mostly, when he is based in the USA and Canada....

I have done this tour before. and one BIG piece of advice I would give you would be that in Los Angeles find yourself a place to stay in Anaheim. Its about a 20 minute drive from LA. It's about half the price and about twice as nice as anywhere in LA itself. There are also (or were in 2003) a number of tours of LA (Beverly Hills/Hollywood mainly) that start off from Anaheim.

I don't know mate. LOL Don't fancy staying then? I put my PVR in at 8 as I'd had enough, what you hoping to do? Sorry I went to the west coast when I was 10, 21 years ago so I've not much input there!

I did it this way. Flew to LA drove to San Diego & had a day in Mexico. Drove across to Las Vegas (visit The Grand Cannon) via palm Springs then up to San Fransisco via Yosemite Park if you have time back down to LA via Highway 101. You will love Highway 101 Monterey & the whole coast. An interesting place Venice Beach near santa Monica. I had three weeks, ok kept on the move but saw lots & this was with the family. Have fun hth ......

Cheers mate - only got 12 days or so so trying to stick to the big important things and enjoy the driving in between without being side-tracked at every turn... Will keep everything in mind though...
