Tyre size question?

Im driving a 2008 Veccy SRI with the standard 17" alloys. Can I fit a 205/40/17 tyre, or is it going to be too narrow? Vauxhall gave me 4 new tyres for free, but they're crap(Acclera!), but I've got allloys from my old corsa with nearly new Toyos on them, so could i do a swap?

No they would be too small, the numbers are worked out like this:

17 = wheel size
205 = tyre width
40 = 40% of the width in wall height

The overall tyre/wheel size will be wrong by about 7% so your speedo will be out!!

I think that the only tyres you can have on your 17's are 215/50/17 or 225/45/17.

The Acceleras will wear in fine, I've had them before and I rate them above the factory fit Goodyears.

205-40 are far too small.

Thanks for the replies guys, I thought they'd be too small, but no harm in checking. Guess I'll stick with the Acceleras. Now does anyone want a set of 17's for a corsa c.......
