I sold my Vectra C and bought an 2010 insignia sri cdti last year i lost a fortune on the veccy but lost a load more on the insignia i managed to lose nearly 6k in 11 months if i could have turned back the clock i would have kepted the veccy another couple of years and changed to something that holds its value better

I would have kept the 3.0V6 CDTi Signum but the fooked auto gearbox forced a choice between costly repair or a costly change.
Look on the bright side - it's a nice motor. If we all wept over the lost pennies we'd all be driving around in old knackers! :-)

If i was buying a new car then Yes, without a doubt. Thay are a massive improvement on my Vectra, still i like my old Vectra.
A girl at work has one and i think it looks and drives great. Better than some German motors, the 4 ring mob's equivalent and the 3er spring to mind.
I would not be worried about the depreciation either, there is very very little that's worth more than 35% after 3 years, unless you pay a real premium when new, in which case the purchase price goes up and it loses more money.
I think the cheapest 3 series 320d ed is over 28k now, before you have added metallic paint or anything else!
    The cheapest A4 is 26k.
    Discounts? well you never know.
    Warranty ?
The Insignia Diesel Exclusive nav is 22k i bet you can get at least 5% possibly 10 off that making it 20,600 ish.
I don't know for sure but it looks like they all lose a shed load of cash to me.
My brother in law bought a new Insignia last year for 16k, it is a basic 1.8 petrol, no alloys etc but it looks smart and drives really well too.

insig is superior to the vectra in most areas - apart from diesel fuel economy by all accounts.
Would have to go for the bmw 320d instead when replacing vec because: -
    • looks. insignia still doesn't look great to me
    • 320d holds its value a lot better
    • the fuel efficient 320d engine is in a class of its own. Lots of money on fuel will be saved compared to driving an insignia 2.0cdti.
    • emissions. the 320d has lower emissions, therefore costs less in road tax.

having said all that, insignia used bargains are very tempting. values have dropped like a stone - the same as the vectra did.

After owning the VXR then having to sell it when I lost my job, I can 100% say that if/when I get a job that pays that well again then i'll be in the VXR once more

Even if money was no object, I doubt I would ever buy a new car, the depreciation on them would always stick in my throat!

Just a few points to add to the discussion...

Vauxhall currently have a few offers on which make buying a brand new one more financially viable. The 0% apr with any deposit you want is a massive offer - on a 25k personal loan with the Halifax, I'd end up paying back over 5 years almost 35k Wothout any interest being added, I can spend 35k in the first place and pay back the same amount...

Add to that the 100k lifetime warranty and it all starts to look quite tempting. Depreciation is only an issue if you need to sell the car just after you've bought it - as said above if we worried about money that much we'd be driving around I'm bangers or just cycling everywhere...

The depreceiation on new cars is ridiculous. I'd let somebody else take the hit.

635d sport, twin turbo & pretty economical or last of the Lambo V10's Audi RS6 Avant. Drinks a bit though. Both 2nd hand obviously!
