    Default Please help..2.2 Direct

Hi everyone, I will apologise in advance if i waffle on a bit. My 05 Vectra 2.2 Direct seems to have given up the ghost, I would be grateful for any help/advice.
I noticed a few weeks ago that on idle it was running slightly lumpy, but nothing major. Yesterday, I had just got off motorway, crawled in traffic for 15 mins, then whilst pulling away from traffic lights, power lost and EML came on ! I stopped, re-started and then all seemed fine for 5 mins, then same again. This time, I was unable to start without EML on. I managed to limp home with v little power.
First thing I did was change plugs..no change, in fact the spanner light is now on but no EML??. (I noticed that whilst limping home, if I turned ignition 0ff/on then it wud tick over without any warning lights, slight pressure on throttle and engine seems to run on 3 cylinders before EML came on then would run smooth albeit with little power). the missfire was just like a plug lead wasnt firing, so maybe coil pack im thinking??. Had plugs out again, 3 are perfect colour, but the one on drivers' side is sooty.
I am aware of the fuel pump/regulator problems also, I just dont know where to go with this...... sorry for waffling Guys, any help would be gratefully received

    Thanks

    Hello,

I would say coil pack or injector!! I would possibly be more inclined to try the coil pack first, although a sooty spark plug could mean that it is sparking but getting no combustion which would lead me to the injector. HTH

Sorry mate, thats sounds like the High Pressure Fuel Pump problem as per Watchdog. It will gradually get worse unitl its undrivable.
Exactly the same situation and symptoms with mine that wents 2 weeks ago.
A trip to your dealers and stick it on Tech2 should confirm and then plead for some assistance from VXL with the cost of repair!

I dont think you can just swap it mate, I beleive it has to be tech2'd out and the new on tech2'd back in. In effect they are paired with the car!!

    Someone may correct me though!

Please can anyone confirm whether it is possible to fit the high pressure fuel pump myself? and how difficult it may be.

According to my invoice they recorded Tech2 fault P1191 Fuel pressure system malfunction. P0302 Cylinder 2 misfire detected. Replacement of HPF pump required.
So I'm guessing because of how the direct injection system works when the pump starts to fail it fails on certain cylinders first.

Sorry, don't know if its DIYable.

I believe the two problems are interlinked. From what I've heard/read, most of the time dealers have replaced both parts when this problems occurs.

Have a search about on here for more info mate, there are quite a few threads about it.
