Default Does faulty EGR trigger any error codes?

    Morning All,

I have the EML light on but it shows no error code - I keep resetting it but it comes back!

I have read about mucky EGR valves and the cars performance is a bit hit and miss so I wondered if it was time for an EGR clean.....but does a faulty EGR trigger an error code?

    Thanks,

    Mark

What mileage ? If its really sluggish from cold start I would suspect the EGR valve, also smokes more when driving.

I am coming up to arong 50k on the clock.

The car can run fine - it ran great for 150 miles afterthe last full service in March - this morning is was a bit sluggish as it was 4C.

I just dont want to play around cleaning the EGR if it isnt that - I would have thought the EGR would have logged a fault code though.

    - if it is the EGR do I need new gaskets (3?)

Maybe a better reader is required? It could be a manufacturer specific code that has been set, and hence a generic fault code reader wouldn't read it.

Only faults that affect emissions need to be able to be read by generic code readers.

I would have hoped that the U581 reader would have indicated something - it is one of the more expensive £60 ones - the £20 didnt work!

Anyone else got a U581 telling them any error codes?

...and back to the EGR - what are the gaskets part numbers to get (if I eed them)?

I also have the U581 that reads the code ok so I should'nt worry too much there.

I did have a code logged as

P2279, Leak in Air Intake System.

It turned out that the cause of my poor performance was the EGR valve but I had to clean out the solenoid side too and copper slip the shaft. This involves drilling the plastic cap and knocking out the shaft cleaning and replacing. If your going to clean the EGR you might aswell do this at the same time. There is a How 2 on this on the site just do a search.

After the inital code and the reset I still had issues and performance problems but no further codes displayed for me.

As for the gaskets I only got one from Vauxhall dealers for about £3? I think, but if your cars only done 50k and your carefull I think you could get away without replacing them.

    Hope this helps.
