    Default Y30DT again

I think the fuel pump is giving up now.
When the engine is warm it starts fine-ish. When cold it takes a while longer but starts with hardly any cough.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it is the fuel pump, then it is likely the fault is present at all times

Given the problem only occurs from cold start then it may be :
    glow plugs
    fuel filter
    exhaust system

I would start with the easy ones
The exhaust system should be checked for failed baffles and cat in full working order
If the fuel filter is over 12 months old then replace that
Finally have the glow plugs inspected (or replaced as they will need to come out)

If the fuel filter is suspect then that will cost a few bob!
I wouldn't consider this until every other avenue has been considered

I had quite a missfire accelerating uphill with half throttle.
Wouldn't I get a fault code for the glowplugs? I'm having serious EGR issues right now, waiting for it to arrive from the UK.
The fuel filter is rather new. It's had a service at 242.000km.

How can I check the exhaust?

If the EGR is faulty then you will need to wait for this to be replaced
That also explains my suspicions on the exhaust sytsem, as the EGR forms part of that

Checking the exhaust is quite easy
With the car cold,on a ramp simply bang the exhaust chambers and listen for any sounds
    There should not be any
If you can hear any then it is highly likely the baffles have collapsed

I can't remember, did you have injector issues? I have read reports of injector problems giving misfire like symptoms.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

The car does sound louder than it did before...

I do have misfire like problems. I've had that since the EGR gave up on life All got worse when I added some injector cleaner in the fuel tank

That's what it does when it's parked for 4 hours.

Morning startups are getting quite difficult. When it starts, the engine shakes but drops to normal idle like it should. If I release the brake pedal it kicks into high idle and the engine shakes again for a moment (the higs idle is because of limp mode caused by faulty EGR). When I drive of it seems fine. After driving, what could be no more than 1 mile it starts misfiring under constant throttle at about 1500rpm or so (it's fine if I accelerate). Lately that's gotten even worse, for example when going uphill it starts coughing, misfiring (when doing that it smokes gray-ish) and if I accelerate it's the same if not worse. So all I can do is wait for it to stop coughing. All that major misfiring (going uphill) happens when the car is NOT in limp mode. When in limp mode it can misfire on the motorway at 1500rpm too.
Under acceleration from low revs there is a wierd diesel clatter
