    Default 2.2 direct egr

Really fancy cleaning my egr and been looking for some advice. All i can find is info on the non-direct which looks straight forward. the little info i could gather states that the direct's egr is water cooled, is this correct, dont want to start into this without a bit of backup

Water cooled it is mate, when you pop it off your going to have to drain the system before hand.

The EGR is bolted onto the battery end of the lump, I'd imagine there are 2 possibly 3 bolts holding it on. As its quite a bit down the lump i'd say your going to lose quite a bit of coolant. There is a drain plug on the bottom of your rad. Are you having probs with it or something, TBH if your not having any probs I would just leave it.

This is my EGR above the arrow (forget about the arrow it was from a different thread) the barrel shaped thing. Yours is in the same place. HTH

That's the dirty diesels mate, don't get me wrong, ours can fail but are not as troublesome as the sooty boys. VX fix by the way is just to get rid of it and tech 2 it out of the car, there not needed for uk MOT.

Interesting reading, is that a fact regarding the ERG on the Direct 2.2?
I also do not have a problem but handy to know should things play up. Having read about blanking them of but leaving the unit conected what are your thoughts Mr Rush? Cheers .........

With the none direct 2.2, just blanking them off but keeping them hooked up electrically is a tried and trusted thing. With the direct however I'm not to sure as its water cooled, if the blanking plate stops the water flow then I would have thought that wouldn't be a good thing. If Benny catches this thread he'll know for sure. But as said, the EGR is only needed to pass emissions from the factory. Once it leaves the factory its not needed and not even be an after thought come MOT time.
