Default Something fallen down under car!?

    Hi guys,
I was walking towards my Vectra across a car park this morning, and noticed that it looked like something was hanging down underneath the car.

I got on my knees and had a look, and yes, something was hanging down. It looks like a metal shield or something.
I bet it because of the damn speed bumps in my area. I've heard it scraping the past couple of days when I go over them, and I just though I'd hit them at a bad angle, but know I know what the scraping sound is now.

I've taken a couple of picture:

Does anyone know what it is, or how to re-attach it?
I haven't had chance to jack car up and have a propper look yet.

I don't want it falling off when I'm driving and causing a car crash behind me.

.....and a quick look it seems to be held on by those 'finger' type washers - push on and they self lock

What? I don't get what you mean.

So you're saying all I need to do is push it back up, and it clips in place? Or do I need to screw anything back on?

ok - I've only looked under the side, but there appear to be studs that stick down from the underside of the car. The holes in the shield go over these, and then you fit the locking washer - looks like a circle with fingers going into the middle ( or a cats bum ! )

    Thanks. I'll have a look.

I won't ask where you put your fingers...

The shield has probably coroded and fallen off the studs. Just use some of the repair washers (penny washers) to hold it then a starlock on top.

Well I've finally got round to taking a propper look at it.

I jacked the car up, and got under.

At first it looked like the are some screw bolts in the underside of the car... so I though, OK, just unscrew one, put a big washer on, then screw it back in and it should hold the shield in place...

    I was wrong.

I unscrewed one of the bolts, but instead of unscrewing, it just twisted, and snapped off...

After doing that I kinda started to understand what you meant.

Is it one the these that I need?

and put a big washer on with it, to hold the shield in place..??
