Shouldnt have passed an mot if its that bad. Mine failed but it was at the point of seizing completely if I remember right. If its the front I think its a full hub jobby. May be proven wrong though.

I had a Clio with the same noise and it WAS the wheel bearing. Seems like its gone or going on the Vex too. It will get progressively louder with time if you keep driving it due to it breaking down.

The clio was £50 and a really easy job. Its basically a set of ball bearings in cylindrical hollow tube and when they go the ball bearings crush, this then means tehre are less ball bearings doing the same job and doesnt take long for them to go after. When the all crush or tehre isnt enough to do the job they start wo weld themselves together and the wheel siezes which then means you get flat spots in the wheel due to dragging it and ultimately the wheel will blow

cars can pass an mot with a noisey bearing, but if it really bad they can addvise it, or fail it if it has excesive play,

the bearings are £160 from the parts counter, dont know what they charge to fit, but if you can do some mechanical work it not to bad to do
