    Default Spanner Light

Had the Spanner Light come on today (Car with Spanner through it)

Just as I was beginning to go crazy, I stopped the car, got in again and restarted the engine ... no sign of the car and spanner light

I guess it must have tripped on and fixed itself

I've had this a couple of times on the motorway when resuming the cruise control. Cleared once engine switched off.

Nothing to worry about, probably just a gremlin.

    Petrol or Diesel?

If it's a petrol engine it will most likely be the thingymajig that I cant think of the name of right now needs cleaning, think carb, its the metal unit that mixes air and fuel between the air meter and the rocker cover, you need to undo the four torx screws and disconnect the water flow pipes, clean the bottom of it with carb cleaner all around the butterfly etc until its clean, also the pipe at the rear which goes to the rocker cover, clean that thoroughly and make sure the rubber pipe isn't blocked.

    Hi

It's a diesel CDTi (150bhp) .. I thought it may have been an indicator to drain the fuel filter of water ... shouldn't be any water in there though as I only use Shell Diesel Extra.

Glad it has gone out though

The old manual does state though that the light coming on for a short time and then going out is of no concern. I wouldn't worry about, unless it comes on again and stays on.

BTW all diesels needs to have the water drained out occasionally from the fuel / water separator / filter. It is nothing to do with the brand of fuel used.

It probably will return sometime in the next few mths, as it says in the book if it comes on and goes out dont worry.

If it's the same system as a DTi, the fuel filter is easy to drain, just a knurled plastic nut at the bottom of the filter body, dont drain it too much or you risk an airblock and she wont start without a lot of prompting, samething if you replace the filter, have some spare derv to top the filter body back up before trying to start it again, might just need a new filter, I think 20k is the replace interval.
