Default strange goings on under the bonnet

    Hi Guys,
A good while since I last posted on here, been up the wall with new job!
Still a few odd things for you techies to ponder over.
As you lifers on here will know I swopped the tired siggy for a veccy (57 plate 1.9cdti 150) six months ago and all has been OK until recently.
engine management light on two days ago so into stealers and EGR valve at 33K miles? couldn't believe it, I thought all this nonsense had been sorted by a redesign on the valve, apparently not as they are on back order and non to be had! what a joke!
    Now onto odd things.

This has crept up on me really without me noticing, I have realised that the car starts very violently particularly when warmed up, engine seems to almost leap out of the car and the whole car shakes, never had this with the siggy with same engine? makes some odd sounds as well any ideas?

coasting out of gear and slowing to traffic lights or similar revs drops right down to 500 where engine is struggling but as soon as I stop it recovers to normal revs, doesn't do it if clutch depressed, any more ideas?

Now this is the real odd one when engine is warmed up about 15 seconds after switching off there is what I can only describe as a "boing" noise from under the bonnet somewhere, honestly I am not going mad! its like a spring releasing or something, very strange.
Thinking caps on guys any more ideas??

Can't say I've heard of anything like that either Pete, if you want a second set of ears to have a listen, give me a shout.

Sounds like the dual mass flywheel to me with the erratic running and the noisy starting sounds like the fragments from the DMF are killing the starter motor.

well last reply stopped this in its tracks and is so off the mark its un true!
The "boing" noise was real and was a noisy vacuum sensor so the dealers told me, they had to order it and it was replaced and now no more "boing" noise!
nothing wrong with DMF by the way.
other probs still to sort but the main thing is the car keeps going the main one to sort is still this dropping of revs when slowing to stop which then recovers when stopped and only out of gear and clutch not depressed.
    any more ideas guys??

Default the violent starting of the 1.9 cdti-help!

Hi Guys, good while since I posted been very busy and the old vecca has largely behaved its self over the last year and 47k miles apart from the one on going problem and that is this very violent and I mean violent starting when hot (doesnt do it in the morning at first start). The car has been into dealers in rotherham twice for this and not sorted (pathetic) since been into dealers in sheffield for same and within half hour of dropping car off they rang me to say they had a job starting the car and it was deffo DMF! so DMF replaced under warranty at 40K miles (also pathetic) and it did seem better for a while (may be it was wishful thinking on my part) till now at 57K miles and perilously close to end of warranty! and its as bad as ever, I usualy depress the clutch to start up and this is when its at its best but still kicks like a mule and shakes the car, now if I "dare" to start up with car in neutral and clutch not operated the engine sounds like it is trying to escape from the car and there is a hell of a clattering noise and it can take 2-4 attempts to start the car. once running its as sweet as a nut! I have had several people listen to this while I start it up and all have said "****** hell thats not right" I reckon It might be the starter motor disengaging too early? but I am now at the point where I need to get this sorted as its causing me serious grief!
wife has an astra sport hatch with same engine and it simply tinkles into life when ya turn the key! wish my veccy did!
    any ideas guys??

I would still say it needs a new dual mass flywheel.

Also agree with what you said before about the starter motor
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
