Default HU Gone off for Repair

Had to take my HU back to Halfords to be sent off for repair today. It's been having intermittent issues just randomly turning off and not turning back on, so I moved all the wiring about behind the HU, and tidied it all behind the glove box. All was OK until Thursday.

Went for a drive, put the facia on, and nothing, HU won't even power on. Checked all the wiring (as there is quite a bit with it having to connect into the CAN-BUS for steering wheel controls) and that is all OK.

Took it back to Halfords as it's less than 12 months old, and the bloke from the ICE department said he was having the exact same issues with his HU....which was the same as mine. Should be back within 7 days, but could take upto 28

Tell me about it, I had a cheap-o Sony HU in my Astra for 5 years and had no problems with that, but you pay decent money for a decent HU, and it busts within 12 months????

The sales of goods act states that if an item is faulty, they must offer a repair, replacement or refund, however if the item is being repaired it must not inconvenience the end user (I.e you)

If my HU had to go away there is no way I would have gone a month without it!

I had a similar thing with Orange, I had a blackberry which had to go for repair, they gave me a mobile what just about sent texts and I used the inconvenience thing, got a free upgrade 2 months into my contract and some credit to my account

The only reason I've put up with it is I was on holiday all last week, although the 6 hour drive would have been better with my Ipod plugged in rather than the crappy CD30 I had to fit back in.

Just hope it's all OK, as my last Pioneer HU that had to go back off for repair had to be sent back after 2 days, as the Pre-Out was playing the radio even with a CD! They have used too much solder on the repair causing cross over somewhere.
