Some might see it as harsh, I personally think that is fair. Too many times do you hear of a copper blantenly ignoring road rules. Hope this sends out a message to others who think they are exempt from the rules.

P.s I've nothing against coppers, Just think its about time they got treated the same as joe public, especially where traffic offences are concerned

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

Well, I was told by a POLICE officer once that if I was ever caught with a motoring offence I would get treated more harshly as I was an Advanced Driver (IAM), theory being Advanced Drivers should know better.

So applying the same logic, an advanced POLICE driver who speeds for personal gain will get treated harshly also.

However, he crashed his car by hitting standing water... what a knob, I'm sorry, but he should have known better. There are great forces involved when driving at high speed and he simply should have known better.

Whats the point thrashing around in a high powered car in the rain for goodness sakes? asking for trouble.

Any other POLICE traffic officer would see the error he made, there is no excuse

whilst I think it is fair, he has messed up and will have to live with it. The OP hit the nail on the head with the way sentences are handed out, He's lost his job and his pension and the respect of his family banned from driving and a custodial sentence, some criminals must be chuckling to themselves as to what they get

i think imo it was a little harsh i mean an ex police officer inside its going to be ruff, ok he lost his job and his license and a fine but anything other than a custodial sentence, did the police ever have crown immunity

People who get sent down are almost always going to lose their jobs. If you cant do the time dont do the crime

You dont get sent down for going slightly over the limit this guy was almost double. What if he had killed someone and they were related. I for one would think that a 5 mth sentence was too small and in no comparison to what they had done.

Ps I think he should keep the pension he has earned as that is rightfully what he has earned.
