what's everyone's recollections of how they used to travel around. i.e. No seat belts etc?

I can remember lying on the parcel shelf so my sister could spread out on the rear seat on long journeys. I used to love it and would often fall asleep like that.

I now go spare if any of my kiddies even think of 'touching' the seat belt. Things have definately changed for the better.

I grew up in the era of Jimmy Saville Adverts - so I have always clunk clicked every trip.

What I do remember is a windscreen shattering - before the advent of laminated glass.
Our family Morris Minor is fitted with seatbelts (retro fitted) - of the buckle type with no give in them at all - its more like a race harness. If you dont get it done up right in the first place it comes undone of its own accord.

I remember filling our old Victor estate with 4 adults and 8 kids, most of the kids in the boot.

Sitting on the centre console box of my uncle's 2.8 Granada Estate doing the gears for him... I'm starting to think there's something my family haven't told me. Oh and going five up to Belgium for a break in a 1.0 Metro!!

Vivid recollections of rolling about in the back of my Dad's Volvo estate behind the dog guard, aged about 6, pretending to be a puppy!!!

Also had a good competition in 6th Form, to see how many people we could cram into a Renault 5 and still drive it (it was 11!!!)

Scares the life out of me these days, though, the number of epople still driving about with little kiddies bouncing al over the back seats - soooo scarey!

I remember not being allowed in front seat cos you had to be 14 to sit there. As a treat i got to sit there on the way to the shops. but i do remember sitting in the boot of the marina estate with my brother and cousin and 6 adults in proper places.

I use to have a bed made for me in the back of my parents Estate when we went on long journeys, I also remember sitting on Mum's lap in the front.
