    Default What is a Dual Mass Flywheel?

    Hi
    I do know a fair bit about cars and how they work. But I dont know what a DMF or Dual Mass Flywheel is.... whats the difference betweeen a DMF and a regular flywheel?

    a regular flywheel is solid,a DMF is made in 2 main parts which is fixed to a rubber cushion in between allowing some movement

    Cheers Duncan, great animation. So in effect its just like a clutch plate with the springs that absorb the bite point. I can kind of understand why DMF's are so expensive

    A dual mass flywheel = major expense.

    £800 we've just paid on the SRi 1.9CDTi. That's the second time it's gone. Once at 65k and again at just under 130k.
