    Default V6 Tuning Advice

    Hi all

Am looking for some advice on an appropriate Tuning Box for my 3.0V6 CDTi Auto. Car was registered in july 2005 so think it is 184bhp Standard. My main reason for fitting a box would be to try and increase fuel economy and would appreciate some advice from anyone who can help. Have seen that Diagnostix are doing a deal for members on a Powerklick green box but dont know if this is the best option. advice please

    oh no.........another tuning box thread

Seriously m8, there are a few threads dedicated to this subject within this section. It seems that the "Harry" version of the CRD is the most reliable at the moment. Speak to Andrew (Abyss) or Barney regarding this. You can also contact Mike at Diagnostix too as he is an "Approved Trader" on the site.

The trouble I find with the tuning box is that you tend to always want to use that extra power, so infact your mpg doesn't improve.

And don't forget that all the tuning boxes seem to cause the fuel computer to misread i.e. cause the mpg figure to read higher than it actually is.

Owners of the various boxes will be able to tell you by how much - assuming they've calculated their mpg manually at some point and not just relied on the fuel computer reading.

Most tuning boxes are more economical than standard due to the fact that you don't need to accelerate as hard to get the same performance if you can understand what i'm trying to say.
Any car that has been tuned or not will suffer poor economy if driven hard. My 1.9 150 SRi stays around the mid 40's/gal due to the fact i drive fairly leisurely around town but give it some beans on the open road. If i took my time on a run it would be high 40's to low 50's. Without a tuning box on a run it would be heavier on fuel as i would have to push harder for the same performance.

Clear as mud that explanation i think!

EDIT: I don't rely on the trip computer. It is out by about 4-5mpg. On a recent run down to London (rather rapid), I put 10 gals in when the light had just come on and did 464 miles until it came on again. Trip comp showed 49.2 mpg.
