    Default Spanner Light

    Sorry guys,

I know this subject has been voiced quite a few times, but as it looks like there are differences between each thread, i thought i'd post mine.

Not long after buying the car, i experienced the spanner light on the dash, in red. When i tried to start the car, it would just die on me. Thinking it was the immobiliser, i unlocked the car and the light went off and it started. This has happened about 4 times.

Today, on stopping to drop me at work and with the car idling, the light came on again. This time it was flashing and flashing yellow then red!. I told my wife to stop the car and leave it 5 minutes before starting again. On re-starting it 5-10 minutes later, it started again with no light.

So far, the light hasn't stopped the car being driven, but as the car is my wife's and it needs to be reliable, i don't want this to cause any further problems.

I've seen the threads and posts on this and there are several possible reasons it seems.

For those that have had this problem, what have you done about it? Do you all try a fault code reader first? Any of you go back to a dealer?

I've posted in our local section to see if anyone has a reader, so i was going to try that first.

    Cheers!

    Gaz

That would be the ideal thing to do. Guesswork can become expensive if you start changing parts that haven't got anything wrong with them.
