    Default Police officers

You may not know but thought I would ask.

I've just been looking at the "police could you?" website and according to their available jobs only the Met are recruiting. Are there only certain periods forces recruit? or are they all fully staffed*

    * what the government deems fully staffed.

You're better off going to specific Force websites for information.

There's very little recruitment going on in general at the moment, sadly the opposite in fact... I've been waiting for ages for the met, even though they're advertising, they won't let me start the application process until I've been to one of their officer recruitment events, something which only happens once in a blue moon from what I gather...

Good luck though mate, let us know how you get on. I've always wanted to be a copper but got rejected on disability grounds when I applied in 2004, something which is no longer legal under the Disability Discrimination Act. Got my fingers crossed this time...

Most forces now expect you to attend a recruitment evening. Dates are on websites.

GMP aren't recruiting at the moment according to their site, Just an idea that has been muling round in my head for a number of years. I'm back in the gym at the moment hoping to get some semblance of fitness back so it is some thing I'm thinking of doing maybe next year. I worked as a support worker for adults with learning disabilities for a number of years and loved it. It was one of the most challenging but rewarding roles I have ever done. I now work in an office helping people with their debts, whilst it is satisfying helping out I don't really feel I'm giving anything back. I am a team leader for our charity comity and I really enjoy that as it gives me that sense of giving but that is about a 10th of what I do in a month. Just want to get that feeling of knowing you are really helping back, might sound a bit weird I know.

Yep, just to confirm. I found that the could you website is useless. Its never up to date and never correct !!!! As already stated, enquire with each force. I found that the individual force websites were accurate. You could always phone their HR dpt...

I'd do a bit of research if I were you. Many join with the idea of 'contributing' (including me). You rapidly learn that, on response, the majority of your work is dealing with the Wayne and Waynettas of this world, who expect you to sort their useless lives out in half an hour! It can get very disheartening and quite a few leave before their two years probation is up. (And I hope you like paperwork)

I'm not trying to put you off, but it's not all Road Wars and The Bill.
