Can anyone tell me what this is. Its spitting oil over my Z22SE. Its on the bottom of the head/top of block. This pic is taken looking from the firewall on the left side of the engine.
The big silve thing is the manifold heatshield.

Not a clue, what is it?
Not knowing what a Z22 etc engine is, I'm guessing its a petrol one?, it looks like petrol or water to me from the photo, but whatever it is it doesn't look serious enough to weorry about just yet mate, is it on the inlet manifold? if so, i've seen many like it, you gotta stop gunning the **** out of it, it's a car not a F1 barge.
Exhaust manifold?
Can't see where that is leaking from. Looks like the manifold, but if it is, it is a leaky valve seal or something....
Can't see very well though.
Strange that they've changed the flow from front to rear as per 205/309 GTi (car gets more French as I pull bits apart) and tilted back as per French. This does allow easy access to sump work etc. I do not want to be drilling the studs out the Ex. manifold on this one.
If you oil is clean then this is the kind of mess/colour it would make. If you have a small leak sometimes the wind and vibration can move it about making leak location hard (remember a small amout of oil can go along way). Can't think why the stud would have oil on it.
Will have some thinking on this one.
If it's under warranty still, get it back into VX. I'm not saying there's something wrong, but that's what warranty is there for.
if its leaking from the manifold suspect valve stem seals (warranty job!!)
Sounds a possibility as the oil will blow out on startup and some might drip but would expect blowing noise from manifold gasket.Originally Posted by Beavis
Looking @ the pic on an LCD screen it does look like oil.
Are you one of the smoking on startup people, how many miles on the clock.
Keep everyone informed how you get on as loads of us have these units in our motors.
Having had a sober look mate, I think it could be as Bevis and CDTi say.
went to vx, they said it was a leak from rocker gasket. 53 plate and only done 22000 miles so fully covered. will let you know if it is anything else when it goes in for a proper look.
