confused Advice about Silicone Sealant to use

I have joined the club of people with a lake in the spare wheel well in my hatchback. I have identified the leaks as the aerial and the left-hand roof rail. Advice on a couple of questions would be much appreciated before I start taking it apart...

I have worked out how to fit the new aerial from peering under the roof lining and from the information in the forums. Can anyone suggest how to torque up (or even just tighten up) the nut that holds the aerial on? It has the cables coming out of the middle of it and sits in a recess?

I think that the roof rails are removed by levering them up out of the recess. Is this right? Also, I have ordered some clips and rivets as I am guessing that the roof rail is leaking around the mounting brackets - again going by information in the forums. Would it be best to seal the new brackets on with silicone sealant? I have seen other people suggest this, but where can you get this sealant from? Are we talking about the suff you seal round your bath and sink with?

I think any good bathroom sealent would do. Can you get in easy enough to apply it. I had a leak in the Vectra B sunroof, silicon sealent did the trick, and it has not leaked since.

Tightent the nut with an adjustable but you need to lower the roof lining. Unsure about the roof rails though. Are you sure it's not coming from the lights as well? I would seal up the aerial first and go from there.

Yep clear silicon sealant will do. I did that to one of my old cars too Ed.

I would suggest using a quality Dow Corning Sealant, they even do an "auto" one sepcifically for use in and on cars....
