    Vehicle : Jaguar XF 3.0D V6

    Trim : Black

    Engine : 3.0D V6

    Year : 0000

Default Tested out some new kit

Call it either Equipment Familiarisation or 'playing'.

Anyway, I connected a current monitor to the starting and charging cable to the battery and did some tests. Data logging and then charting the inpact on current flow gave these interesting plots.

+ve current is discharging the battery

Starting the engine (got the axis labels the wrong way round here - oops)

Notice how the current for each compression reduces and so does the duration, as the engine is increasing in speed and each firing is providing rotational forces on the engine too.

And then the charging part, with various electrical devices working

Enjoy............ almost as much as I did.

    Interesting....
Not sure about the scaling on the charging current, surely it doesn't take 100A to run all the kit?

Can you do another one with the power steering? I swear mine draws so much power that not only the car lights dim, but so do the street lights within a 50m radius of the car.

The kit was laptop powered, the initial charging rate was just for battery charging, shortly after start, then it also powers the auxiliary current draws for lights, demist and blower.

I think he was meaning the kit in the car i.e. he didn't think that there would be a pull of 100A for running the car and the accessories (lights , demister etc.) that were on.

I was just about to say the same, but its the voltage that drops in that case to cause the lights to flicker. The voltage regulator quickly irons out the spike though. I think an initial tug on the steering drops the voltage by 2 volts, although its very quick to compensate on the test mode display on full canbus Vecs.

PS:Sorry about poor grammar my apostrophe is printing a # at the moment!

its bactualy current draw(amps) which cause the lights to dim

Top man, thanks for the correction.

    I'm not worthy.

PS Bactualy? Is that an actually back in time ( a past tense )

Over to Ste, for the rest of the experiment........
